Esmeralda Basin Trail to Lake Ann (8.4mi, 2200ft gain): What a beautiful, secret hidden gem of a trail. It wasn’t crowded and felt like 5 hikes in 1: tons of streams, tons of wildflower meadows, a view of Mt. Rainier with lots of lush green trees, a 360 view of surroundings at the top, and ends with a view of Lake Ann. I would recommend a high clearance vehicle bc the service roads are intense but a sedan could do it. Sunday crowds were non-existent – we arrived a little before 10am. Tons of campers and backpackers leaving. There are biting bugs so lather on the bug spray. I escaped with 1 bite. 5/5 would recommend, esp bc it’s wildflower season – hence the reason why I went. Will update my blog. Lol yes Lake Ann is not much of a lake in the summer – hit it up early July or late June. Def a long ass hike.
